my 2002 Pt Cruiser AC compressor clutch will not engage. I just would liek to know which is the hot wire on the compressor that engages the clutch

There are 2 connectors on the compressor. At the top on the side nearest to belt you will find a black connector with a black wire and a Medium blue wire. Black is negative, blue hot. You need both! On the other end is the pressure switch. The compressor will cut off if there is low charge, this is most likely your problem.

You can confirm if it is indeed a low charge. Pull the Low Pressure Sensor connector of of the top of the accumulator. With the AC on jump the 2 terminals on the connector, If it kicks the clutch on, guess what? I recently had a similar problem.
