Loss of Engine Power.

Default Loss of Engine Power.

My pt cruiser used to have alot more power, lately I have to put the car into 3rd gear to get up this hill I had no problems climbing before. I've read in my obsidian corp manual that possible suspects of loss of power are...

Dirty or incorrect gapped plugs : I recently bought new plugs and gapped
them correctly to fix an idle missfire problem


Contamination In fuel system:



Faulty Fuel Pump: Just found out this goes for a whopping $237 at the local
Autozone. How would i find out if the problem is the fuel
Pump or fuel system without buying a $200 dollar pump?



Leaking Cylinder Head Gasket: What are the odds of this being the culprit,
And again how would i go about diagnosing?



Low Compression: I've recently signed up for a college auto class and will
Hopefully be able to check this soon. as i do not have
The tools are knowhow yet


Burned Warped or Pitted Valves: umm WTF? dont even know what that
Could mean? is the valve where the piston
Fires and slides in?

Faulty Ignition Coils: EH?



Anyway, I'm just hoping to get some input on what some mechanically savvy people think the most likely problem/solution could be.

The first thing I thought of was a blocked exhaust or collapsed CAT, so put that on your list to check out. That will give you a slow loss of power as the CAT blocks the exhaust until it fully collapses and you don't go anywhere.

With the right tools, the fuel pump can be measured up at the engine bay with a furl pressure guage. Leaking Cylinder head gasket goes along with low compression checked at the spark plug hole. I wouldn't worry and the burned, warped or pitted valves.
