Hi, I have a 2001 Chrysler PT Cruiser with 44-some odd thousand miles on her and was involved in a hefty accident back in November. Suffice it to say, many things had to be repaired/replaced. One of those things was the main computer harness in the engine compartment. In the accident the engine was pushed back and cracked the housing of the harness. The repair shop ordered a replacement and didn't receive it until the beginning of June. They took two days to "replace" it. My car worked great for about a month, then my car refused to start. At first it only occurred on hot days (90+), then it occurred during anytime, any temperature, warm or cold engine, etc. We were convinced it was the ignition switch, so $18 & 30 mins later, we replaced it and determined that was not the source. So, out of desperation, we looked closer at the harness, etc and noticed that when the harness was moved to a certain position the engine started just fine. Looked even closer and noticed the following...
1) Harness in original position 2) Harness in the position in which the engine starts fine 3) Another angle of number 1 4) Additional angle 5) Sensor on the air intake. Looks aged (more than 2 months at least). Keep in mind that the harness should only be 2 months old if the new one was installed. In addition to the starting issue, today I got odd performance out my vehicle. It felt as if there was a drag on the engine and my RPMs dropped during acceleration. After this occurred, my check engine light came on with the following codes: P0340 Camshaft Position (CMP) Sensor Circuit P1391, which this forum says is: Wheel Speed Sensor 1 - G - Sensor Circuit Performance, but this site says "Sometimes, I can't see the crank or cam sensor signal." Now, I've scheduled to have it repaired/looked at (by someone else) and it should/better be covered by my insurance's warranty that was put in place when they paid for it. My question is, does this look like an even adequate installation of a harness? It looks to me that they didn't want to take the time to properly reinstall the harness and just put the new ends on the old cabling...Could somebody post pictures of an original harness? I would love to compare. I would more than happy to provide more information or pictures if need be. Any help greatly appreciated! |

I'm curious what the conclusion of this wiring harness problem was.
Did they replace the 'new' wiring harness? And if so, how much did it cost? Did 'whatever they did' fix the problem? I have a (presumed) wiring harness problem, detailed here: 2006 PT Cruiser Help! (TIPM? WCM?) Thank you. |

Hi,
It turned out that the original repair shop just needed the plastic bit from a new harness, so they took the old harness' wires and plugged the pins into the new plastic connector. When they did this, they somehow did it incorrectly and the pins had come loose over the 2 or so months of driving. So, this was why when moving it, the pins made contact and everything worked fine. Thankfully, it was a relatively easy fix and a Chrysler dealer did it properly and I haven't had an issue since. Good luck! Last edited by windowsmaster22; 29 Jun 2011 at 01:51 pm. |
