Default Best Tire Choice?

In your experience, what is the best choice of all season tire in terms of... Handling, Performance on paved and non paved roads, Performance on snowy/slushy or wet roads, Durability, Longevity, Safety, Value, Warranty. The reason I ask is that I am in the market for new tires (I believe I have the original good fears) for my '03 Touring. My wife will be using the vehicle and it is the only car my 7 week old daughter will be riding in, so obviously, safety, handling, durability, and longevity are at the top of my list. Thanls for your input!

My personal mods so far- removed white air restricter, white hibiscus flowers sticker above the rear hatch lock, nice white primer/rust splotch underneath the passenger side tail light from bodywork...more to come once the money starts flowing freer and the car is payed off

You'll get lots of opinions, but I'll start with mine. I will never buy anything other than Michelin for any of my vehicles.Mileage, traction and comfort have never been an issue,so thats what I am sticking with.

So, when I was looking at the Michelin Hydro-edge, and they told me that the speed rating was lower than spec. Is that a problem? BTW I live in MN where it the temps have dipped into 45 below and can be as high as 108. the roads can be icy, slushy, wet, dry. And as I said before, safety is my biggest concern.

I live in Mn. also. You will not be happy with the hydr edge. They are crap in the winter for traction. Go with the Exalto a/s. As far as speed rating-do you routinely cruise at over 118 mph? In my opinion speed rating is jusy a gimmick to sell young kids more expensive tires.

Has anybody used the Good Year triple tread? Any good for icy roads?

Well, since comfort and noise aren't on the list, I'd just get a good set of mud and snow tires to best handle the adverse weather conditions. My wife wouldn't appreciate the subtle difference between a $900 set of HydroEdge vs. a set of $300 end Mud&Snow tires, and I'm sure yours wouldn't either. A decent set of Mud&Snow rated tires will be every bit as good and safe as those more expensive "high end" bull-crap (I'd never put them on my own vehicles) tires from Michelin and Goodyear, but with a little more noise and not as attractive of a tread.
