Hi all.. great site, i just got the wife a 2002 PT touring with auto tranny. It has high mileage and im not sure if the timing belt has been changed so id like to try and do it. Im mechanically inclined, is there a how-to on how to do it ? I tried downloading the repair manual but i guess its not avail anymore. thanks.. phil

Phil,

Welcome to the forum.

There's plenty of talk about owners changing their own timing belt and lots of horror stories. I certainly wouldn't try it without some sort of guide. If you can't get the service maual to download, there's always the pay site PTDoItYourself.net Chrysler PT Cruiser, PTDIY.net, Do It Yourself maintenance, modification, repair, fix, FAQ, gallery, and tips It's only about $15 and has all the information you could ask for. There's alway the Haynes Manual with 8 pages of timing belt instructions but I don't think I'd trust that for a complicated job like this.

You're not alone. I plan on doing mine too, but thinking seriously about dropping the engine/transaxle to do it.

What he said, PTDoItYorself.net has a lot of good info. And is a good place for a newbie to start.

What is "high mileage"? You've got until 100k miles.

CREWZIN is right, you can get yourself into a whole lot of trouble and damage your engine if you don't know what you are doing, even with instructions. Good luck for those who've never done it.
