PT inside light keeps going on and off when car is shut off

I have a 2002 PT Cruiser with 45,000 miles. Recently the check engine light came on with a code related to the Evaporative System leak and I changed the gas cap and after a few days that check engine light went out. Now all of the sudden the car thinks the door is open and the inside overhead light comes on randomly when the car is parked, the doors, including the hatch are shut tight and the car is shut off. I had to remove the overhead light bulb so the light wouldn't keep coming on all night and killing my battery. Does anyone know what the problem is? A computer problem? Thanks

All of the items you listed go to the cars security system control box, that might be a place to start looking. I would 1st look at the door switches.

Does it happen when you're driving, too, or only while parked?
Do you have remote entry? I'll bet when lights come on, it's also unlocking doors...
If you don't have keyless entry, could be the Multifunction switch.

I realized it does happen when driving. The door light comes on and it dings letting me know that a door is open. I do not have remote entry. I have to use the key to open the door and manually lock it. Very old school. Thanks for your comments. I appreciate your help because I don't want to be ripped off by some dealer.
