Default 01 Tranny question

Is there any way to log onto the computer port and change the shift points on a 01 automatic limited edition?

Kforce,

Not that I'm aware of, at least not in the way your thinking.

A few years ago one of our local Master Mechanics on the PT forums developed a way of improving the shift between first and second gear on 2001 and 2002 automatic trans cruisers.

The way the trans is designed, when it shifts between first and second (not sure about the other gears) the computer shuts the injectors off for a split second and I think also retards the timing for that split second too. It does this for a smooth transition between gears.

MX-5 (local guru) designed a way to do away with the injector and timing cutoff by a simple method of cutting one wire. It doesn't hurt anything and actually gives you a better/faster shift that you can feel. Many of us have done it with no bad results. I did it to mine years ago and tens of thousands of miles and have forgotten all about it till you asked. Here's a link for another forum describing the procedure. If you still don't understand it come back and ask questions. I'm always here.

That's what came up in my search Mike. There was a better one somewhere, where you posted a few pictures of the procedure but I can't find it. Hopefully the one I did post here will explain it enough...and yes, we have been around a long time.

Remember these?

Angry Re: 01 Tranny question

I dont care about the shift between 1st and 2nd. Its the shift between high gear and overdrive. It shifts too soon when on the highway. Can I run the car in 3rd gear instead of the drive selection? Even in the 3rd gear it still shifts into a overdrive gear which is really annoying.

Sorry, it's programmed to save you money at the gas pump and get you into overdrive ASAP. Don't think your gonna change that. Maybe Mike or someone else can answer in Mechanic talk or knows something that can help you.

P.S. It shifts you into overdrive even though you put the shifter into 3rd because it doesn't want you to over-rev it and blow the darn thing up. You'll notice you can't rev it up very far in neutral either, a safety thing.
