Talking stuck valve

anyone ever heard of a stuck valve? A couple of months ago my engine was running weird, i had changed my spark plugs, wires, air filter and it was still running like it was misfiring, the other day i raced my friend on the way back home and after, i heard a valve ticking over 2000 rpm, so the next day i took it for a long drive and the noise went away and my engine is now running perfect and lot more power. Anyone had that problem before of a stuck valve? I'm no expert in cars but i get my way arround pretty good, and i never heard a engine with 40 000 miles could have a stuck valve, but anyway i'm happy now that my problem is solved. Thanks

Don't think an additive will work but you could try one. When it's happening (miss) you could perform a compression check or at any time pull the valve cover and check for a broken spring or keeper.

since i bought the car in February, the engine was running like it was miss firing and the dealer told me since i didn't pay much for the car i would have to change plugs and wires and they wouldn't do nothing else for me,so i did and didn't do nothing the engine was still missing. For the pass 8 months the car was running on a miss i was gonna change the coils but i've been off work for the last 6 months (heart problem) i had no money. But now the engine is running great and i'll keep in mind to check for broken spring or keeper if it starts acting crazy again. Thanks crewzin.

Good luck with your heart problem. Just one thing, I'd save your money on the coil thing. We seen hundreds, probably thousands of problems related to missing, rough idle, stalling and anything you can name to do with engine annoyances and and I can't remember ever seeing one that the coil was the culprit.

LOL! That's what my dad says...blow her out!!!

I had horrible mpg (13 mpg) when I first purchased my used one...then I took it for a long drive (350 mi. round trip)...hit 120mph...a couple of times. When I got back...it was averaging 18 mpg (city driving).

Mine wasn't idling funny...just horrible mpg.

The valve probably wasn't stuck but probably had a little carbon build up on it. The best thing you can do for a car is once a month (ATLEAST!) take it out and drive it like ya stole it! So many problems can be traced back to problems that can be fixed by that!

Wow, I guess everything I own should be in tip top shape! Since my PT is a gutless wonder, it sees about 500rpm away from redline for each shift quite often (achieved by about half throttle, full throttle just makes more noise and gives about the same acceleration...). Oh well... That's the drawback of having a n/a slushbox.

On the missing side of things, you've probably already found it on the forum here, but there's a tsb for regapping the plugs to .040". Stock is .052". That has fixed many peoples problems with rough running. I still have to try that on mine since it's running quite poorly now.
