Default Oil Light

First time user, from Gilbert Arizona, I’m a home Inspector and travel a lot with my 04 Cruiser. She has just under 59K on her now and my mechanic is scratching his head, Chrysler wants to troubleshoot by replacing components.

My 04 sometimes gets a Intermittent Oil Light!
First time the light came on I was (PT) Cruising down the high way at about 65MPH, I got the Dong, dong noise, looked at the interment panel and had the oil light. Pulled over, turned off the car and checked the oil lever (level was ok). Started the car, light never came back on, had oil changed. For about 3 month everything was fine, then sitting at a red light the oil light came on once more. I turned off the car, light turned green and I started her up and pulled off the road. Oil level was fine, Changed the oil my self this time. On a different Forum someone mentioned using the 2.4 Turbo Oil filter (Filter is larger and filters more stuff), so I did. For the next month or so everything was fine until yesterday, oil light came on after about 25 miles of surface driving, I was going about 25 MPH and the light came on, pulled over and turned off the car, started her up, light stayed off and I took off. About 5 minuets latter the light came on at a Stop light, turned her off until the light turned green and pulled into a parking lot, checked the oil level and once more it was fine.

I try to change the oil between 3500 and 4K, I normally use Straight 40 weight Pennzoil, now I have been using 20 / 50. Check the Error code and there are none.

Any thoughts

Yep! Welcome to the forum. Easiest way to narrow down your problem is change the oil pressure sending unit.

Also, with your year and mileage, I'd switch to whatever the Owners manual calls for your car, either 5W30 or 10w30. That could also make a difference.

Your turn Bob.

I think you are correct about using the 10W 30, and good advice about the sensor, maybe I'll get lucky and get away with a simple fix!

THANKS

I have had to replace my oil sensor twice in my 03 GT. Pepboys has a deep socket in the "help" section for the sensor. Don't try to remove, or install without the deep socket! You will need to run the car up on Rhino ramps, a lift, or jack it up and use jack stands for access to the sending unit.

I purchased the Sensor, popped the Hood and then closed it after looking at the tight space is under there!

Went back inside to have a 2nd cup of Joe before starting the Task of the Sensor change.

Thanks littleblueGT I'll go to Pepboys and find a deep socket before starting.

I'll keep ya all informed!
