Hi all,
I live in the UK and I've got a 2003 Classic CRD. When I fill the tank, I get a lot of diesel pouring out from somewhere around the tank. I think it must be around the pump which I believe is on top of the tank. After about 15 minutes the leak stops so I'm assuming its coming from the top of the tank. Has anybody else had this problem and know what the actual problem is? I want to fix the thing myself so Id like to know what parts I need to order before I do the job. Can anybody help? Cheers Tony |

tony the CRD is not availiable on the other side of the pond..although the fuel tank is probably the same...why dont you take a look at and join the UK CRUISERS club... http://www.ukcruisers.net/...you will find they are very helpfull if you have problems (as they are here
i hasten to add ) also there is a very good social side to the club with cruises all over the country...chris

....and Tony, if it's built like ours, the pump and filter are at the bottom of the tank so it wouldn't be leaking.
Bob's guessing might be right although there's also a vapor hose along with the pipe or the top of the filler pipe to the access panel where you insert the diesel nozzle might also have a problem.

Guys, thanks for the replies.
More information so I'll try to get as much as possible in here.. I took it to a garage. He said that the fuel sender was loose so he said he had tightened it up. He wasnt sure what he had done would work. I filled it up again and it was still pouring out. I suspect he meant the fuel pump! Bob. I would have thought the leak would have been nearer the rear wheel if that was the case. The leak is literally in the middle of the car underneath. However, I'm still open to your suggestion as a possibility so I'll have a look. CREWZIN. My electronic manual says the pump is on the top of the tank I rang a dealer who said he'd have a look, didnt know what it could possibly be but said he'd have a look. The hourly rate is £82.50. I'd like to have more information about what the problem actually is before anybody starts digging around my car for that sort of money. So I guess the options are... Either bite the bullet and get a dealer to sort it, OR, drop the tank myself, have a look, put it back together again, get the appropriate bits, drop the tank again and fix it myself. If I do the latter, I'll take pictures and post a description of the problem. rebelcruzer - sounds good to me. Thanks for all your help guys All the very best Tony |
