Default 60k Service (dealer) Fuel system servicing

The dealer told me i needed the 60k service for the fuel system.

What services do the dealer perform on the fuel system?

I have run Seafoam atleast twice, and i run injector cleaner through the gas tank at every oil change.

Do they take out the injectors and physically clean them or what?

I have cleaned the throttle body too!

The way the dealer does it is to take a can of injector cleaner that's under pressure and attach it to the fuel rail and empty the can into the rail which causes the cleaner to to through all the injectors and the rail and clean them up.

From what you told me, you don't need it. BUT, if it's in your owners manual as something that should be done at 60K and your still under warranty, and you don't have any receipts for all the stuff you used, if something goes wrong with any of the injectors, they won't be covered.

Always keep your receipts. It's up to you if you want them to do the service. It's a good money making deal for them.

Check around at some of the auto places if you want it done. They can probably do it cheaper and keep their receipt.

I had the fuel system servicing do on my pt 2004 with 55000 miles because the dealer said it needed it I bought it used but It sounds like with the seafoam and fuel cleaner you may not need this just new plugs and wires

Is that can deal something I can buy and do my self?

Its not hard for me to do that stuff.

There is no current problem with the cars fuel system, but preventative maintenance is something i usually do.

Id rather not let the dealer do it because they are gonna charge an arm and a leg for it .

you can do it yourself if you have the proper hook ups I'm not sure on the PT but on a Silverado Pick Up there is a port r a hookup that will allow the hose to hook up to the rails on the system it is kinda a hook up and spray its a little better than sea foam only because it is under pressure and if there is any yuk on the tips of the injectors it will "SOMETIMES" clean it off---however keep in mind there is only so much pressure you can send thought the system

You should be able to buy a pressurized can of fuel cleaner at any auto store. The connector to the PT fuel rail is at the end of the rail. The rail is located in the back of the engine but towards the top next to the valve cover.

Read the instructions on the can carefully.

That's just how to connect it. I'm not telling you to do it, or not to do it.

the ones w did at the place i worked the vehicles were running so the idea was that whatever the stuff was it would be heading out the exhaust----kinda like in "THE DAY" when you would (Please tell me i'm not the only one to do this) rev the car up pretty high and pout some tranny fluid down the carb to help clean the carbon out of the cyllinders-----and after the SMOKE cleared we would do the same thing and shoot gummott down the carb to clear out the oil

Yep. If your worried, you can always take the fuel rail off (not hard) keep the injectors on the rail and blow it out but I dought anything that is in the injectors is big enough to hurt the engine when it's fired up. It's only built up gunk.

Nope, used to do it to my 57 Chevy only we used just plain tap water and put it in a Coke bottle (remember bottles) and pour a little bit at a time down the racing 4 barrel to clean out the carbon build-up on the piston heads. Cars never ran better after that.
