Default Engine cuts in and out at 2200 RPM

Driving on the freeway after about 20 miles the engine light comes on. At between 2,100 - 2,200 rpm the engine cuts out.

Riding the line between 2,100 and 2,200 rpm is like a bucking bronco as the power cuts in and out.

Drop the speed/rpm to under 2,100 rpm, engine runs fine.

Once the problem starts, anytime you hit between 2,100 and 2,200 rpm the engine cuts out regardless of speed.

Turn off the car, let it sit overnight, problem is gone. For a day or two. Then it happens again.

I took the car to the dealer. They say there are no stored error codes and they can't replicate the problem.

So, I picked up the car after they had "tested" it for 3 days and can't find any problem.

Drive 20 miles and, here we go again. Same problem.

Any ideas?

Yes, this sounds very familiar! It happened, exactly, to my 03Gt.

About a year ago, mine kept "bucking" around 2000rpm. It started out of no where. One minute it was fine, the next it was "bucking" violently. I took it to the dealer and they said that my 4th cylinder wasn't working. The fuel nozzle in the cylinder was clogged and because it could spray fuel in the chamber, no nuthin could ignite. The spark was happenin, but no combustion.

So, they cleaned the nozzle, and haven't had a problem since.

And, yes, my engine light came on. Had to drive it on the back roads, cuz there was no way it could've made it on the freeway. Once I got it home, they sent a tow.

Do you ever add fuel aditives to the car? They will help to keep your engine clean. I use Techron on the Corvette and the PT every few fill-ups.

I haven't. I have asked my service manager and he told me not to use anything but the appropriate gas. I think he doesn't want me to use stuff that's too harsh.

Have you ever had nozzle build-up?

I did once but took Tylenol Sinus and it cleared right up!

Sorry, couldn't resist. If you keep to a good name brand gasoline, most of them use their own brand of additives that keep the fuel system pretty clean avoiding any gunk build-up.

Thanks. This is very helpful.

Was this under warranty on the powertrain or were you charged?

Lol! Silly Billy!

Yeah, that's what my service manager says. I keep pestering him about a fuel additive and he keeps telling me "just gas".

I want to say it was under warranty...cuz I believe I only paid my deductible...but now that I think about it I would say it would be maintenance.

I will look to find my receipts at home and post what they charged me, either tonight or tomorrow.

The dealer says, although they can't find anything wrong, I have a corroded battery lead. And for $600 they will replace it for me. Then, maybe they will able to diagnose the problem.

Now, why would a battery lead cause the power to cut out only at 2100 rpm?

The clogged fuel nozzle makes far more sense.

And, I am the one that is going to need the Tyleno sinus, or perhaps a few shots of vodka if this doesn't get fixed soon.

Just hang in there. You might wanna try another dealership, if what they are quoting you is crazy....where are you located? I might be able to text my service manager and see who he recommends in your neck of the woods.
