Default 5 Speed Shifter Linkage

A while back the bushing on the tranny end of my shifter linkage perished away and left me unable to put the car in gear thanks to the new inch of play before the rod was moved. I fixed the problem by using a smaller bushing -inside- the loop that fit nice and snug over the peg and around the inside of the loop. This too is starting to die as it seems, so i have decided to fix the problem in a different way. I am assuming the bushing is to soften up the feel on the stick so that (like everything in the car) its cushy. I am planning on putting a solid nylon or even metal bushing in there so that i get more feel and don't have to worry about it perishing. Thoughts? Ill post pics soon

Well I did it! It is absolutely amazing to drive! Each gear brings a sense of confidence and you get great feel through the handle! Also.. while I was working on the linkage I decided to modify the airbox. Pics will be in my next post!

Ok! Here are the pics of the airbox mod and the shifter linkage fixwith some loose instructions, if you want more, just ask or PM me.

LINKAGE FIX
What it does: Gives a much firmer shift and better, sportier feel through the handle
What you need: I used a flexible nylon loop, a nut of with the correct diameter hole, a large washer and a loop of coat hangar wire

1. Take out the old bushing(perished and broken in my case)

2. Place the nut over the peg on the transmission end of the linkage (it should be a snug fit, but not binding)

3. Trim the nylon strip to fit around the outside of the nut so that it fits snugly but again, don't force it too much.

4. Spiral the nylon strip inside of the linkage loop so that it makes a surround for the nut

5. Assemble the end of the linkage and place the large washer over the loop

6. Lock it all down with a loop of coat hangar wire using pliers to twist it

... And now the airbox mod.

Just pull out the two snorkels and fill the weird front cavity of the aribox lid with foam!

(^The foam is uncured there, it expanded more and i cut the surface nice and smooth)

Interesting! What you mod the airbox for?

It was more of an experiment than anything, but it gives an interesting new noise under heavy throttle (more sucking and more pleasant engine noise), some more pep (though I'm sure it's just a placebo effect) and if my suspicions are correct, a minuscule gain in fuel economy. The major accomplishment of this project was actually that i came up with a design for a ram air system that has never been seen before on the PT! I am going to fiddle with things i have laying around to try and get it to work, but with any luck (and some good supplies laying around) I could actually pull it off! It's going to take a while though, like most bodge jobs...

Sounds cool! Be sure and report if you see any gain in mpg...shoots if it's a lot, I'll do mine too....wait a minute...would this matter if I have a GT?

Well the foam bit, no. The GT doesn't have that section in its airbox. I don't know if you have the snorkels or not, but you probably do...
