There are several threads on here about that mod. Basically, rip out the white plastic silencer that you see when you lift the top off of the box....no performance increase, just a little more of that waaaaa....sound. Other guys talk about filling the pie shaped piece with foam etc....best bet is a drop in K&N filter to start with imo.

If the 07 airbox is the same as the 01-05, then this is mostly correct. You remove both the snorkels (white and black) then you fill the front silencer section with expanding foam etc. I just did it about a week ago and its louder, but not "waaaaa." That combined with a drop in K&N will give you a nice little added pep.

Purely butt dyno. You can't really feel the extra 2-3 hp the K&N drop in filter gives. If you could your butt could feel the pea under 12 mattresses.

Keep in mind that its not just the drop in filter though, 2 restrictions removed and one massive waste of space blocked off combined with the filter will give more than just the filter alone. I'm not saying it is massive, but its definitely better than before.

I've seen the results on the dyno. The baffles you remove in the stock airbox do not restrict the amount of air you are getting they just redirect it so as to quiet it down. The PT auto benefits as the hesitation between 1st and 2nd is eliminated. Ask anyone who tunes performance cars if 2-3 hp can be felt and they'll say no. It's all good though as the little bit more noise you hear makes you feel more powerful.

If they tune performance cars, then yeah, 2-3 horsepower will be nothing because they are used to 400-600 horsepower on a regular basis. For a car with a quarter of that power, it's a different story. Trust me, having two cars making high numbers in that power range in the family, i know that a small change on a car like that is not really felt. A small change on a car as asthmatic as the PT, however, can be felt.

You win, I give up. I never knew the PT was asthmatic. Must be that extremely short hose between the airbox and throttlebody. That's a real choker.

Thanks for the sarcasm, but really it is not a powerful car. Thus, asthmatic. There are a heck of a lot of things that cause it to be that way, in every part of the motor, not just the airbox. So, instead of trying to shoot what i say down, or make me look dumb, you could perhaps let it be?

I see both your points and I respect your knowledge from other post. Have to agree with MeanGreen, the dyno results show nothing. It's kinda like flipping the air cleaner lid over on old Chevy pickups...doesn't do a thing for the performance but boy that waaaaaaaaaa sound is so cool it just seems like you got a extra 10 or 20 out of doing it.
I removed the snorkels and installed K&N drop in's on both my GT and my NA....the GT kinda seemed a tad peppier to my butt, but the NA just got better mileage and a little teeny bit noisier. Look at it this way....removing the snorkels don't cost a penny and make you feel like a hotrodder/tuner in a smug sneaky way kum ba ya my friends kum ba ya..........
