Default CELand rough idle

my wifes 07 pt with n/a 2.4 liter and auto transmission has been running good. she started home and the CEL came on , and car started surging. she pulled over and killed engine. she restarted it and light was still on. she came home and car was idling really rough. she told me about the surging and i said she may have picked up a bit of water in fuel. we decided to go to autozone so they could check CEL. we stopped at gas station to put in gas, and when i restarted car the light was gone. so we didnt get it tested.it stayed off about 3 weeks, until today it come back on.and the engine has seemed to run rough with a idle of about 6 to 7 hundred rpm since the problem started. we went to autozone tonight and they pulled a code P0068. i read all the info i could find here about it. i went out and checked the engine all over and didnt find any vacuum leaks. any idea on what i should try next ? any info will be greatly appreciated.

You posted the same thing in the General section and Hooligan gave you the best advise. If your still under warranty, don't touch anything and take it back to the dealer. If for some reason you don't have a warranty on an 07 cruiser, here's what I found on the PT Cruiser Do-It-Yourself.net .......

I have a 2002 TE PT with 36k miles. The car intermittently dies at stops, surges when taking off from a stop and idles rough. This has been an issue since new. The self tests indicate fault code P0068. The dealer flashed the PCM and replaced the plugs, but it hasn't helped. I replaced the throttle sensor, and the mass air flow sensor, but it did not help. We like the car a lot when it runs right but are ready to dump it. – Chet, from California.

P0068 - Manifold Pressure/Throttle Position. Correlation MAP sensor signal does not correlate to throttle position sensor signal.

Possible causes for this DTC include:

High Resistance in MAP 5 Volt Supply Circuit
Resistance to Ground in MAP 5 Volt Supply Circuit
MAP Sensor
High Resistance in MAP Signal Circuit
Resistance to Ground in MAP Signal Circuit
High Resistance in MAP Ground Circuit
TP Sensor Operation
High Resistance in TP Sensor 5 Volt Supply Circuit
Resistance to Ground in TP Sensor 5 Volt Supply Circuit
TP Sensor
High Resistance in TP Signal Circuit
Resistance to Ground In TP Sensor Signal Circuit
High Resistance in TP Sensor Ground Circuit
PCM

The PT does not utilize a MAF sensor, perhaps you're thinking about the MAP sensor. If you replaced the MAP and TPS and still have an engine light (MIL), they didn't resolve the problem.

This fault can also be caused by a vacuum leak, which could help explain the rough idle and surging. Check for vacuum leaks first. If vacuum is ok your dealer will have to run a diagnostic to rule out the remaining potential causes in the list.

Being an 07 if you are under 36k miles then take it to a dealer and get it fixed under warranty. If not then more than likely it is a defective map or TPS. If so replace them both because it never fails if you replace one it's the other.

darn thing is out of warranty by about 6k miles. go figure. i hate to just start dumping money into it on parts, but that may be what i have to do, cause i cant afford dealer prices for repair...thanks
