Default Broken dipstick tube

A couple of years ago I put one of the new plastic manifolds on my 04GT. That was an easy job but hooking up the dipstick tube was a problem. So I just used some strap steel and hooked the tube to it. And then a couple of days ago the tube broke off right at the block and it took me 40 miles to notice and find the problem. Sprayed oil all over the place and used up over 1 1/2 quarts of oil. The hard part is getting the broken off piece out of the block. It was not stuck in hard but there was no way of getting hold of it, but I did get it out and put the new tube in and really hooked it up good this time. I tried making a hook and pulling it out but that did not work. Used an EasyOut and slowly worked the broken piece out.

SO if your dipstick is not held sturdy, you had better check it. I am lucky I did not run out of oil and blow the moter.

There is a spot to hook up on the plastic manifold, BUT it is in the wrong location if you use your old dipstick tube. Maybe the new tubes will fit just right. Anyway we cut a tab off the old tube, drilled a hole and used one of those nuts that woun't come off by themselves. Then we could use a self tapping bolt to hook it up to the plastic manifold. I should have do this a couple of years ago.
