Forget far-fetched HP claims, I want a chip that will give me back drivability.
Anyone with a 5-speed knows what's up. Kick the throttle. What happens? The R's REALLY lag. Then it tachs down to 1500 before maybe finding 1100 of so. I HATE THAT!! This is a port injected car. Where's the throttle response? So, does anybody make a "drivability" chip that will restore throttle response and a low idle speed... for off-road use only of course ![]() |

Stephen,
I don't understand, my PT is a joy to drive. The engine reponds instantly and revs so quickly in first that if I am not careful it hits that damned hard rev limiter before I grab second. Mine is an '02 with only slight modifications. I am running a Volant Cold Air Induction and a Monza 2 1/2" cat-back system and a Hurst Billet+ shifter. In stock condition it did act like it needed to breath but still didn't behave as you describe. Maybe you need to reset your ECM and let it relearn your driving habits. |

Here's a more detailed example:
The way is should be: Idle = 900 Rev Motor Idle = 900 The way it is: Idle = 900ish Rev Motor Idle = 1500 Then Idle = 1100 Eventually Idle = 900 Key Point: I think this is because of emissions control (perhaps also a heavy flywheel). My issue is not with acceleration. This is merely a detail I have noticed in the vehicle. |

I have a 2001 PT Limited with 5 speed. It has 44K+ miles on it.
I have no problems with drivability. No lagging here. I frequently challenge my son with his 2002 Mazda Protege to a friendly fast driving challenge. responsibly of course ![]() I have a AIR FORCE 1 cold air intake, duo exhaust without a header/muffler, just resonators. Maybe it time to have the car looked at. |

Stephen,
I am aware of the of this delay and believe that you are correct in attributing it to emissions. I don't see how this creates drivabilty problems. Even during Atlanta's worst inch & creep grid-locked traffic jams it doesn't present a problem to me. I guess I just don't get it. |

Just get a Airraid or a K&N cold air. On the n/a cruiser it def. improves throttle response at low rpm. HP no increase, but better low end driveability.
And it is an emissions thing. How fast do you want the tach to drop after you let off the gas anyways?
