I'm not 100% sure, but I think the sensor does not have a seal. The suspect seal would be the camshaft seal.

There is a seal on mine, simple rubber grommet it is build into the piece which you replace. Check you local suppler dealer for part, want to say under 50.
Simple tools really a ratchet and sockets would be the best option. I replaced this part, took about an hour to do so. You need to take out your intake box and manifold completely. That requires a simple flat head driver. I believe you are talking about the upper piece, which can be seen once you open the hood just above the lower (small) intake hose which comes out of the side of the intake box correct? The lower portion, the camshaft sensor, is a much harder job.

Camshaft.
Reference this information below and my discussion about this matter when I faced this trouble Error Code 0340 There are two parts upper and lower. Trips typically error code 0340. The upper is the Camshaft Sensor, it tells the camshaft to turn over (I think). If this fails you will not be able to turn the PT's engine over and it will just keep trying to crank. This piece looks like a flat panel type piece with a wire housing attachment. see link RockAuto Parts Catalog The lower from what I know is the Camshaft Position Sensor. From what my mechanic told me, on 01-02 the sensor is behind the oil filter, access is from under the cruiser, jack stands or ramps are fine. 03+ the moved it to a location behind the passenger side wheel. I know I had to attempt to change this part myself and could not find it anywhere my Haynes manual told me to look. I got lucky and my problem was from the upper Camshaft sensor unit. This piece looks like a prob type with a wiring harness attachment see link Shop 1A AutoŽ for Chrysler PT Cruiser Crankshaft Sensor 2.4L (8th VIN Digit B) 2001-02 for your PT Cruiser Lastly, Have you replace this already, I know I often come in late?

Oh ok,
Do yourself a favor and get a new part, like under 50 at Napa when I got mine. Make reference to which one you need. I got both in case. Get some silicone just in case, silicone which is made to form a gasket type seal which can be removed if needed. Replace at home when you have time, very simple procedure really. Save a ton of money, dealer quoted me around 200 for the job. I did it for under 50.

If you send me your email address I can email the Shop Manual section about camshaft seals. Send me a PM.

Well after taking the car back for the oil leak at the camshaft sensor they replace the seal and it still leaks. So I took it back again and this time I see they siliconed the sensor to the head not a very good fix in my opinion but my question is will the oil leaking on the sensor make the sensor go bad?
