Gentleman
Hello, I have a 2001 PT Cruiser. A couple of days ago, at a red-light, my engine went dead. Come to find out, the teeth on my timing belt wore off. We have replaced the timing belt, water pump, Crankshaft sensor, and a new battery. My problem is we have no fire. We have checked everything to make sure everything is plugged up correctly. Any suggestions “PLEASE”. Thanks BigRig |

We have checked the coil, and it seems ok, No fire through the spark plug or wire.

Ok we are about to pull our hair out, if we had any!!!!
We have replaced the coil, and it seems we are getting fire on the battery connection post, but not on the other two, that forms the connector to the coil???? we have run the lines to the P something module, which is around $200.00 bucks and connected close to the computer. We have also replaced the camshaft sensor.HELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!! Thanks Tim |

Tim,
I'm not up on all that your saying, if fact most of it don't make sense to me but I have read a heck of a lot of posts on this and other forums and with the same kind of problems. It seems like your throwing parts at the problem without actually knowing they are bad (something like the dealer does at your expense). Rarely does the coil go bad nor the Crankshaft sensor go bad without a pacific code being thrown by the computer. If the Crankshaft and Camshaft throw codes, it's something else, not those parts. What puts the whole thing together, meaning inputs from sensors and units is the PCM (Power Control Module) and that does seem to give a lot of owners problems. When it does go, no matter what's working, they'll be no fire. I'm not sure if there's an exact way of checking the PCM without having the expensive tools that the dealer has but that could very well be your problem.

Is their a way to run a wire directly from the battery to the input side of the coil. That would bypass any connections, switches, etc... that could be defective. It's not something you'd want leave as I think that would allow the engine to run even with the key turned off.
This is something I did a long time ago on a car that had a distributor with points. I am not sure it works with current models but might be something to try. |

Sorry Guys if you do not understand my ramblings, I am just very confused.
But the PCM is what I was referring too. I hate to purchase something so expensive, and it end up not being my problem. But I guess I have no choice. Thanks BigRig |
