Glad to hear the outcome. Burnt valves are not common but it has happened.

o.k i got the cruiser back on friday, after them replacing the head, 4 valves, water pump, and timing belt. my total bill came to $570.00
the cruiser hasnt ran this smooth in i dont know how long. and the work did come with the 12/12 warranty on it.as far as the cause of the problem, i couldnt really get much sense out of the service manager.he was saying that the rod, on one of the valves dropped down out of place and let it get down in the combustion chamber and tore things up. well to me it sounds as if he is trying to say that it dropped a valve.but i would figure in that case, that i would have had some piston damage as well. but who knows, at least i am on the road again.it was getting expensive, for my wife to drive my 89 ford 4x4 75 miles a day for work.a pt gets a lot better milage than that thing does.

hi folks, long time no post.and no offense but i wished i wasnt here this time, but, the PT is ailing again. Friday it tripped a CEL with a p0068 code and is idling rough. a p0068 is the code it set off a few weeks before i had the bad valves incident a few months ago.and had to get a new head and 4 new valves.i have put 11k miles on it since the repair, and at 58k i hope its not happening again.but it is sure acting the same. i may go ahead and do a compression test so that i can just see how things are measuring up. i'll keep you all updated.

Hi Forum,
I'm afraid to say I am experiencing an identical problem in my 2008 PT Cruiser. Same cylinder, same symptoms, same code. After replacing spark plugs, wires and coil, I swapped fuel injectors between Cyl 2 and 4 expecting the problem to move to #4. Well, it didn't. A compression test revealed 70psi in #2, the others being 120 to 125. A small amount of oil was injected into #2 cyl and the pressure came up to 120. Naturally I thought this confirmed a piston ring issue. Fortunatly, a mechanic friend recommended a Cylinder leakdown test. The results were that upon pressurizing the cylinder with compressed air, I could clearly hear the compressed air escaping through an exhaust valve. After pulling the head and inspecting, it was discovered that I had not one but two burnt valves. My PT has only 67,000 miles on it. No one has any solid ideas as to the cause.
