Default Electrical problems? Help please.

Hi. I'm new to the forums. Sorry if this may be in the wrong spot. I did a search for my problem and didn't find a thing. Hopefully, I'm not repeating something.

I have a 2006 Pt Cruiser base model. Last week my headlights, blinkers, and front windshield wipers stopped working. What could that be? My dashboard lights that are associated with the things wrong don't work either. One light does come on, and that's the not wearing seat belt light.

Last year my rear windshield wiper stopped working. My warranty ran out and I didn't get it fixed because I didn't need it. My dome light doesn't work anymore after the headlights, blinkers, and front windshield stopped working. Before that it acted funny. It would come on about 15 minutes after you turned them on.

Does anyone know what could possibly be wrong with my car? If you need anymore information, I'll gladly provide it.

Welcome to the forum.

I was almost positive I knew what your problem was until you through in the windshield wipers. All the other things you mentioned (headlights, turn signals and dome light) are all controlled by the multifunction stalk and that is a common equipment failure since the PT hit the streets in 2000, BUT the windshield wipers are controlled by the other stalk on the other side of the steering column so I'm not sure now what your problem might be.

They changed the fuse panel all around in 2006 and I'm not familiar with your layout.

Hopefully someone else can be of assistance.

That's what I thought at first (the multifunction switch) but when I realized that the wipers didn't work I had no clue.

Thanks for your reply.

Something I just thought of ...someone on here once showed us the wiring diagram of the steering column and if I remember correctly both sides of the steering column plus the radio all came together in one bundle of wires. I wonder if somehow something is rubbing together to cause a short somewhere?

Titl Wheel?

If so, do you use it a lot?

If yes to both--possible failed wiring harness or one that has disconnected due to stress.

Also: this is a just maybe--two problems!

I really think you should consider the multifunction switch replacement and see what you are left with for issues.

Yes we use the tilt wheel. Not too much though. I'd say like 5 times maximum. I'm short and my husband likes to adjust it so it's easier for him to drive. He has his own car so he barely drives mine.

I'm going to have my husband take a look at the wiring.

If not, I'll call someone to see replace the switch. Thanks so much for the information. I really appreciate it.

Cupcake, I have a MF switch that I took out of my 2002, let me know where you are located and you can have it for shipping. It was working when I removed it when I installed fog lights in the 2002. You will have to remove your blinker relay and reinstall it in the one I send you, if you want it.
