A couple people have taken it apart and have not been able to repair it.

I had to have my MF switch replaced (bout 1 1/2 after I bought it) and I used my fogs everyday, since the day I bought it.

However, I bought my car used, so I am not sure if the previous owner ever used the fogs...

Interesting thread tho'

The problem with the multi-function switch is that too much amperage runs through all the switch contacts. Too much, that is, for the cheap parts, (contacts and plastic parts). to withstand the heat build up.

I remember MX-5's write up and pictures, and agree with it all. But for anyone to say that the wiper stalk/switch assembly is part of and must be changed with, the MFS, is wrong. I know, I've done it twice, and put back the separate, wiper stalk/switch assembly both times.

The 4-way blinker relay is a plastic module that plugs into the MFS assembly. That must be unplugged off the old one and re-plugged into the new MFS, when it its installed.

Yeah, before intalling the MFS first it should be unplugged. Cause if not unplug it may cause a flow of current.

It should be able to be repaired assuming you get the right parts and can figure out how it goes in. It seems to me that about 70% of the time i used fixing something, is figuring out how it works. Then its usually a breeze. It would probably be easier, and maybe even cheaper just to replace it though.
But it seems to me that if what CREWZIN says is true, that it would just happen again. Personally, i never use my lights without my fog lights running.
