Where might I find a list of the applicable codes?
We were cruising along and lost power, stumbled a bit, then resumed right along. Happened once, then a month later hist several times in a 30 mile trip on teh freeway. I'm hoping it's not the fuel filter or pump (hate having to drop the tank). Hope it's something simple that can be fixed relatively cheap. |

Welcome to the forum.
If you look right above your post in this Tech & Performance section you'll see a sticky that says "Error Codes". P0340 = Camshaft Position sensor circuit P0456 = EVAP SYSTEM SMALL LEAK The Camshaft sensor is an easy fix if it turns out to be your problem. The small leak could be even easier if it's the gas cap not being tightened. The gas cap won't cause your stumbling, the sensor would. Camshaft sensor - right side of the engine block.

Thanx...I got the gas cap tightened...and will check out the cam sensor...I'll try the connection 1st, then replace if it continues.

The earlier pt's have a flash for the p0340. 01-03 if I remember correctly. Also a good idea to replace the cam sensor. The early ones where known to have issues.

How does the flash work? I've ordered the cam sensor...just need to get it in this weekend.

It makes the PCM less sensitive to sensor dropout. You will have to take it to a dealer to get it done.

The list is quite old. If you do a Google search on "pt cruiser fault P0456" you'll see all the listings for what it is.

actually, if you just put that code in google on its own, you'll get the evap system.
mine had that code when i bought it. i checkd it when i test drove it and googles it on the phone. once i saw evap system, i knew it was the gas cap. sure enough, the guy had a wal-mart gas cap with lock on it. i swapped hte stock one back on and two says later the check engine light turned off.
