Hello everyone,
looking for a bit of help. I just got my first PT. A 06 Route 66 (love it). I am looking to do a few upgrades and from reading some links I've narrowed it down to two options. New ignition wires and plugs or a new intake system. I will wind up doing both but now just have enough to do one. I know once I choose I still have some options but which one will help on gas mileage and HP the best.

A little bit more info. It is an automatic and has about 38,000 miles on it. I got with the previous owner and oil was change when it was supposed to and most other maint. was done. Brake pads were changed to ceramics so they should be good.

Welcome to the forum.
Did you find out if the original owner had ever changed the plugs and wires? If not, that's what I'd do. The stock wires don't last very long and there's nothing like a good tune up to keep the performance and gas mileage at it's best.

Thanks for the information everyone. Looks like the plugs were changed by the dealer.
but the wires are the originals . Is it difficult to change the plugs yourself? If I do the wires then I might as well upgrade the plugs while I'm in there. I looked through the walkthrough on the sticky and it just seems to be too simple Is it really that easy? Any idea on better plugs for southern climates vs northern. Seems everyone goes with a good platinum plug.

Bob,
It's even easier than it looks like in the sticky. On your PT there is no EGR valve in the back of the upper manifold so you can skip that part (and it was a PITA) to do. Stick to the tightening recommendations, don't over tighten. Other plugs will do, but the Double Platinums last longer and if you buy decent wires, you can go 50K, 60K, 70K or longer before the next change.

thanks for the quick reply and info again. Seems as usual there is a varying of opinion on the wires. I am probably going with cranes as they are the only ones I can see that I can get in yellow
.

Whatever MeanGreen and Crewzin say, I'd do. (actually, I've done). They know their poop.
I'd also add a K&N drop in filter(no hp gain, just cleans air really good)and synthetic oil. In all of Arizona, I've seen 3 yellow Rt.66 editions, kinda rare. I likey |
