Default Rought Idle and shaking on acceleration

I think this is my second post here. I use to be a member of the PTcruiser Club back in 2001, we had one of the first PT Cruisers on Vancouver Island. Lovd the car and regretted selling it. So here we are again with another :-)

My non turbo 2005 Convert with 21000 miles is doing a couple of odd things. Firstly it is running rough at idle, better when cold though (higher rpm) but rough, and when warm really bad I would say. Whether in park or drive or whatever it is the same roughness really.

Also when accelerating after she warms up, I get shaking, and I mean the entire care does the shimmy sometimes, especially when going up hilss or under more strain just above 2000rpm, but it can also be felt at or near 3000rpm on continuous acceleration. But when cold I don't notice this as much and sometimes not at all when cold.....Could this be an 02 sensor that is faulty causing both issues?

As I said when the car is cold I do not get any shaking but it still runs rough at stop lights etc. The problems seems to show up after she warms up. I realize some roughness is normal as with our 2001 but this is not right.

I have ordered some Crane wires from Race and Street so when they arrive I will get some champion plugs and get that done hopefully that will help.

Am I on the right track here?

Thanks

The wires and plugs should help with idle and shaking depending on the last time they were changed. The 02 sensors usually give off a code on the computer if they are bad but you may be right because the 02 sensors don't start playing a role in engine performance until they are warmed up.

I'll make a bet the wires and plugs cure it. It did for mine.

same here plugs/wires cured the rough idle... the acceleration on the other hand... idk.. i would start with getting my tires rotated and balanced... and maybe get your timing checked by a professional.

Thanks for the post. Well I confirmed this moring that when cold no engine shacking or vibration is evident and it accelerates smoothly until the temp gauge gets close to normal (warm).

It does however still idle rough when cold or warm.

So I installed my Crane wires and Champion 7570 Double Plat plugs, all went well.

Unfortunately this did not solve the vibration on acceleration at and above 2000rpm. Although the rough idle seems to have smoothed out a bit, but not as much as would have liked, or that I remember my 2001 PT Cruiser was like. That 2001 car you couldn't really tell it was even running.

So I guess I will have to make an appointment with the dealer. I only have powertrain warranty left so hopefully if it is axels or 02 sensor(s) and they are covered. I am getting no codes though. Oh and it actually acted up today when cold too I had originally thought it was only when warm, but if the vehicle is under stress, such as a hill it is still evident and annoying :-)
