Default 2002 PT Cruiser engine problems

What a great site! Thank you for the entrance into this site. Heres my problem, Ive always love the Pt and I just bought an 02 with a blown engine (overheated) and found an engine with 23k to replace it with. Ive got the engine in the car and the only thing I noticed about the two engines was that the placement of the crank senor(old engine by Oil Filter and new behind starter). Ive called the local dealership and they have told me this will not work. Can Anybody help me? Thanks for yout time and help Chris

Welcome to the site Chris.

What won't work. did he say? As long as the crank sensor ( no matter where it's located) sends the information to the right place it should work, but then again I'm not a technician. Chrysler made changes along the way like doing away with the EGR pipe that was on the 2000/2001 and I suppose they changed to crank sensor position somewhere along the line too, but both sensors send the same kind of info.

The new engine will not work. The crank sensor was moved and completely changed in 04. You have an engine from an 04 or newer. There is really no way to make it work either because the newer crank trigger wheel has a different number of teeth.
