![]() see here http://www.knfilters.com/search/prod...x?Prod=57-1550 There are also a few posts that seem to go along with this. Is this not the case as I am trying to save for one and if just going to be a change in noise and something that looks good, I could look at building one like "crewzin" has or at least get the cheaper airaid version.

I cannot speak to HP, but on both my '02 and '05 PTs, intakes definitely produced improved throttle response.

A thought on the non-cold intake filters. I live in California and it can get pretty toasty here. One July 4th I used my dad's pickup pulling a vacation trailer. I think he had a Ford 390 with high rise intake, low end cam,and headers. The outside temp was close to 100 degrees. Dragging the triailer up over a long hill, which normally would have been a snap, was a real problem. The truck acted as if someone turned of the gas flow. Got things turned around to the flats and things ran fine. The problem was the airtemp under the hood was so high that the O2 was severly depleted. Short of the story, I propped the hood open with a bit of a 4X4 and chained the hood down tight. Results.. hood acted as a huge air scoop and dropped the air temp under the hood drastically. You would have thought somebody dropped a new performance engine under there. Cruised right over the hills and had a great trouble free vacation.
Interesting thing about gasoline is that it is pretty sensitive to the oxegen content in the air. You start taking the O2 out of the air and you notice it real fast (adding O2 give a good boost). Ask the turbo guys what's up with the intercoolers... cold air holds more O2. So my thinking is if you run nice looking and sounding intake system if you are not drawing in cold air (outside of engine compartment) you might be setting yourself up for a decrease in performace. The non-turbo 2.4 is already working pretty had. If you are running with four adults and some luggage, pulling hills or head winds, and you a driving in some seriouse summer heat your engine is going to really feel it and those lowly stock PT's just might walk away from you. |
