I was going to ask how he did the compression check as well cause like already said the values have to be closed to do the check and with a broken belt you have no idea where they are

No one can say 100% there is no other damaged but as many folks on this site alone who have had broken belts I don't remember ANY with motor issues or having bent values--some have had overheating after the change and other odd things but I don't remember any bent values

This come down to you trusting your mec, If the first guy was 100% sure the values were bent he is gonna make 100% that they were---- and you would never know unless you were standing right there when he pulled them out and you took them to a machine shop to have them tested yourself--and im pretty sure that's not going to happen

Thanks for both of your responses. It is back home in my driveway awaiting my next move. I am going to find another mechanic to look at it and replace the timimg belt and go from there.

My mechanic has done a few repairs on a few different cars of mine for several years with no issues. I am just wondering if maybe he was over his head on this repair. I won't fault him, but then again, I just don't feel comfortable enough to move forward on this particular repair with him.

I may be a girl with limited knowledge on repairs and such, although I do read and research my repairs alot, but my mama didn't raise no fool. I have to go with my gut on this one and find someone else to fix it.

Denise

Sounds like a good plan
We/I have found that a lot of the shops arnt really all the up to date on the PT (which is odd seeing how long they have been out)
Some guys just don't want to tackle the job for whatever reason
I called a really good shop that i have went to for years and years(over 25 years) and the guy said he "COULD WORK ON THE PT" but it might be best if I took it to the dealer-----and this guy is one of my best friends and a ASE certified mechanic, and has been in business for over 30 years

Anyway good luck on you ride

I completely forgot to post back on what the heck happened with my PT. Well, I had it towed around and found a mechanic that was recommended to me by a co-worker and he had experience working on PT Cruisers. Two valves were bent. Well, he fixed it for $750, almost half of what my long time mechanic was going to charge me. So, now I have a new mechanic.

Well it has been running great and NOW I have a new unrelated problem that I shall post now for you all to critique.

Denise

$750 with bent valves is a good deal.

91K? Yup, that's why there are a lot of posts that talk about considering changing the timing belt and water pump at 80K!
That's `zakly what we did.
