Default Help please

On Saturday my water pump blew, and I had it in the shop til today, $1249.99 (Im in Vancouver, Canada) including a new timing belt, kit, something about airconditioning, yadda yadda...its fixed...but NOW the alarm does not work. I went back in right away and told buddy the alarms not working, he told me to go reprogram the fob, which I tried, both fobs, nothing. I AM SOOOO MAD. so not only did I just spend an arm and a leg on all that work, but they messed up my alarm! so why? why is it not working anymore? I see the flashy red light when I lock the door manually, but now the fobs don't work and the alarm is not on. did they reset my alarm, should i call tomorrow, are they responcible?

Welcome to the forum. If the alarm was working before you went for service and not working now, yes, they are responsible to get it working again.

You followed the instructions in the owners manual about setting the alarm, correct? The horn itself is working by pushing on the center of the steering wheel, right? Is there anything else that's not working as in: the dash lights, radio, headlights ?

I have an auto repair shop in Maple Ridge and ran into a similar problem. Changed the vehicle battery in my PT and lost all use of the power locks SWITCHES INSIDE AND KEY FOB.Tried dam near every thing. Called chrysler and they figured the body control computer lost its memory. Said they would reprogramm it for $30.00. Well that did not work so$150.00 later they claimed I needed a new alarm module($300.00) The module was ordered and the next day while goig to pick it up every thing was back to normal. Obviously the computer lost its memory and had to RE LEARN. For some reason this took 2 weeks of driving as I dont drive far to and from my shop, has been fine for 3months now. How long ago did you have the belt done as this may be a similar problem and may take some miles to RE LEARN.......DEBO

Good for you. Hope it all goes good from now on.

Debo: When the battery is disconnected and the computer has to "re-learn", it doesn't take very long at all. A matter of minutes as you drive normally down the road for most of the re-learning process, maybe less. It does keep leaning as you drive but you'll never notice.

well I have learned the hard way that not all dealerships are alike. The one in Vancouver are swindlers, they'll take u for everything you've got, but the dealership in Chilliwack is not the same. They do alot of freebies, and genuinely like to keep their customers happy. as for paying anything to fix my alarm-no way. its not even a good alarm, just better than nothing. before I would pay for them to fix my alarm I would simply buy a new one for $100. installed at BestBuy.
anywho, like I say, the fobs are going to be reprogramed at the dealership in Chilliwack and also they are doing 2 recalls while Im in so YaY! I love the Chilliwack Chrystler Dealership!!

Debo,

I believe you, especially since your talking Fix Or Repair Daily cars.

I've had the battery disconnected for hours. It stalled once when I started it, started right up the second time and shook for about 3 seconds and it was smooth as could be after that. I still took it for a short 20 minute drive pushing it to the limits so it would learn the way I want to drive. Never had a stutter after that.
