Default EGR valve, 1 bolt?!

I took a look under the hood today to check fluid levels, leaks or any other potential problems. I saw that only one of the bolts on the EGR valve was there, and it was sitting dort of crooked. Is this something I should address immediately? Im kinda worried. I dont really know the full purpose of the EGR valve so I dont really know the potential harm this could cause. Any input?

In addition to the aforementioned, I noticed while driving today that the pick-up seemed to be a lot less than normal. It seemed as if the engine was trying too hard for a while, then smoothed out. AND, on top of that I almost got into a wreck, not my fault in the least. Bad day...

Also, I question the EGR valve because when I come to a stop, the car seems to surge. I did some reading on the forum and this is often diagnosed as being a faulty EGR valve. However the surge could be from spark plug wires too i guess?

If I remember, 1 bolt on the EGR was a machine bolt, the other was a sheet metal screw.
EGR went away in 2003.
I'd get it taken care of - the flange will get stressed and could break, or the other bolt could work out.

Apparently someone before you was changing the plugs/wires and when putting the bolts back for the EGR pipe they probably dropped it and said the heck with it and left it with just the one bolt. One is 10mm and the other is an 8mm. A little tricky to get them both in and started, plus tightened down together to get a good tight fit into the back of the upper manifold with a thin blue gasket for a good seal.

Not sure what the symptoms would be because that pipe isn't tightened but it will cause a leak. I'd try and find a bolt that would fit and get it all tightened up.

I looked it up in my 2002 parts manual but it just said "Bolt", no dimensions.
