Red face Intermitent rough idle

I have a 2001 Cruiser. For several months I've experienced a random rough idle. It will is rough for a few seconds then levels out then repeats in unpredictable intervals. It does not happen while accelerating or cruising, only at idle. I have replaced the plugs & wires, cleaned the throttle body and replaced hte IAC. No luck. Any suggestions.

When you replaced the plugs, did you use the new .040in gap instead of what's listed? Did you make sure the wires were seated correctly?

Im actually having the same problem with my 01

It always feels like its gonna stall on me but about 10 mins ago it actually did for the first time. It started right back up but I still wanna fix the problem.

Ive noticed it only gets rough when the a/c is on.

Plugs gapped correctly at .040, yes/no?? New performance wires, Crane or MOPAR, yes/no? Let us know.

I believe I used the factory gap not .040, I'll have to check (once the rains stop). I used factory plug wires from a dealer and they were fully seated when completed.

Always, always, always check the setting on the plugs before installing. I have seen plugs from the box to be anywhere from .030 to .050 out of spec. both over and under spec. Be sure to use dialectric grease and anti seize on your plugs and wires. Torque plugs to 13 foot pounds. Snug the intake bolts, I use a 3/8" drive and just snug them. Replacement bolts cost $1.38, I know from experience.

Intake bolts are 8 ft lbs. Doesn't take much to snap them, Ernie, you and I know first hand.

I checked the plugs, wires, etc and all seems fine. The plugs were gapped to the factory (Chrysler) setting .050" and changed them to .040". Sadly no change.

Possible intake manifold leak. I've read you spray wd-40 along the seam while car is acting up and see if it smooths out...
