Sorry, I don't think you are going to find any documentation that say 95. I have never heard anything that low.

If all else fails, Ask the judge to Please get in the car and drive it, as an exhibit, so he/she can see that the car is limited to 95 MPH...

When you went to court the first time, you should have pushed the issue of NO RADAR, NO PROOF, only an opinion of your speed by the officer. This is the defence I would use. I am sure the PT will easily go over 100 MPH! Stick to the facts.
Good Luck.

IMHO, should have asked to go to traffic school. You would still probably have to pay the $400 fine plus the cost of going to traffic school, but your insurance rates wouldn't have shot up like it did. The courts will favor the officer's word over yours (especially a CHP officer), unless you happen to be video taping your driving and speedometer at that time or can afford good lawyers. A CHP officer doesn't necessarily have to be using radar, just by following you at your approximate accused speed is enough evidence. Traffic and parking violations are a money maker/source of income for many city governments.

Personally I find the PT (stock N/A) hits its aerodynamic wall at about 95 mph and while higher/faster speeds are possible, it will take some time getting there.

From PTDIY ( http://www.ptdoityourself.net/pttechlib15.html ):

368. I have a new Cruiser with OEM stock engine. At what speed does the limiter cut in on the 2002 PT Cruiser. I tried the DC site, but no information was available. Thank you. - Myrya

The engine rev limiter is set at 3500rpm in park or neutral and 6250rpm while driving. The auto transmission controller will not let you get above 5800rpm. I have also read reports that the top speed limit is set at 118mph.

Well thanks to all for your effort. I went to court last night and the judge would not even hear my motion to reconsider the case. The case was closed long before I ever got my insurance renewal so I'm screwed now and just have to live with it.

So it looks like I will have to sell the car (2001 PT Limited Edition Cranberrty Pearl, 4-speed automatic, stock, 39K miles, one owner) and find other transportation (i.e. carpool). If anyone is interested in buying it, or knows anyone that might be, please contact me via e-mail @ nicolesmith99@yahoo.com. I'm located in Silicon Valley, California.

Nicole

Do check with other insurance companies first. Granted, it may still be high but hopefully not as high and something you could swing. I ran into a little problem with State Farm and my insurance went from $600.00 per year to $5,000.00 per year. Looked around and ended up with Progressive at $1,200.00 per year. Good luck any way you decide to go.

prior a police officer obtaining radar certification they must prove they can judge speed within 5 mph. radar is a speed confermation tool.the ticket is based on the expertise os the officer.
also never ask to see the radar as you can be ask to confirm the reading in court.

Yeah, I haven't topped mine out I really have not felt the need to, but as an insurance agent (life, not car) I had to take the course for the car insurance as well, it will stay on your DMV record for 5 years, but the insurance companies can only look back three years.
