Default big problem

i have a 01 limited, 5 speed, 120,000 miles. recently i have been experiencing what seems to be the feeling of a flat tire, at speeds of 55 to 65 mph.the steering wheel is hard to handle when this happins. new tires, struts, brakes all have not fixed this problem. should also note that when it happens, pull over, shut car off, start up and drive it is fine. just happens every so often.... any clues?

If you shut the car off and it is fine then it doesn't sound like the suspension. I'm not quite sure what it could be but if it was the suspension it would always happen just occasionally I would take it to someone and have them look at it!!!

Agree. Points to something computer-controlled.
Is there any electronic control of the power steering pump? Anybody know?
(I don't think so).

Does that limited have traction control/ABS brakes? If somehow the TCS was triggering braking errantly - that could easily feel like a flat tire.

My guess, the Power Steering Pressure Switch. We've seen them fail on a number of PT's and I think if it's about to fail yo might loose your power steering (which act a bit like you describe) and maybe shutting off the engine kicks it back to life. As I said, just a guess

1) ABS makes a clattering noise - you'd know it.
2) A CV joint wouldn't care if you shut the engine off and restarted - it'd stay bad.
