Gas Mileage in the PT's is abysmal. It's a small car, but heavy and has the aerodynamics of a piece of plywood.

But honestly, could you be seen in anything else? They just don't look cooler than this ride. I can't believe the teenie-gearheads haven't nitroused these things.

My 2004 GT gets 21MPG in the winter and 16 to 19MPG in the summer (I live in SoCal Inland Empire, and it's hotter than the hinges of Hades in summer, hence the AC penalty). Problem=Premium grade fuel. Some guys in here have said that Chrysler engines get better MPG as they age and break in. Indeed that is the case with me. My Mpg was less the first 10,000 miles than now by at least 2MPG (I have 18,000 now).

Gripe: when Acura/Honda (I had a TL prior) can get 23 to 26 MPG on a car similar weight as the PT and 6 cylinders, without Premium grade, then Chrysler (Mercedes?) needs to work a little harder.

On our last trip (3,600 miles) with my '02 NA, the best we got was 28 GPM highway, lowest was 24. Normally around town I get 17-19 (I have a heavy foot). Very happy with the milage.

Whew! I thought my heavy foot was the culprit. '05 GT/auto/H.0.
with 1700 miles...best of 20mpg city, usually 18.5-19 . This is with a/c on in 106+ heat. And just a bit of kicking the boost in.......on each block.
Curiously, a young coworker has a 04 Neon SRT4 with goodies and a stage 2 kit....sharp kid, knows how to figure mileage...says his has improved over 28,000 miles to almost 26 in city and over 30 on highway....unless he kicks in the jumbo horsepower....then it drops to 13.

I have been tracking eratic gas mileage for the last couple of months. One tank full would be around 26, the next would be 18....back and forth back and forth. I started keeping a fairly detailed (for me anyway) log of gas mileage. One thing I started noticing after keeping the log was that the gas mileage was much better if the tank was kept fuller. By this I mean if I filled up the tank when it got down to between 1/2 and 3/4 full, the mileage would average between 24-26 MPG. If I let the tank get down to 1/4 full before filling, the milage woould be closer to 20 and if I let the tank drop below 1/4 the mileage would be down into the teens. I always get gas at the same station, and usually use the same pump so those veriables should be fairly consistant. I'm not sure why I am seeing this trend but I always get gas now before the tank drops below 1/2 full and my gas mileage is much better.

we put a Force one Intake Air filter improvement on and were getting 18-19 without it and since the change over we went on a 1000 mile trip around California and averaged 25 mpg......jud[8D][8)]

PTKRUZN,
I have a 2005 pt non-turbo. I install a Tornado in the air intake about a month ago. I just got done filling up yesterday and for non-highway, I got 27.4. I have 15,000 miles on it and just changed the oil to Castro Synthetic 10-40. I have a friend who is using synthetic and he said he lost 2 mpg by changing. Our PT club did take a short cruise a couple of weeks ago and did some highway driving, but most was at speeds of 50 mph, for the last hundred miles or more, I ran on the freeway and up some pretty good hills at about 78 mph and when I filled up I got 29.6 mpg. Sound like you have something wrong. If you want to print this out go ahead and have the dealer contact me.

My 03 GT gets 18 to 25 mpg in winter and about three less in summer with a/c on 90% of the time and the summer gas which is terrible for gas mileage in CA!

Any idea why this might happen? [:I] I thought I was nuts, and that I wasn't watching close enough when I noticed this trend. I didn't catch the relationship between how full the tank was to the actual mileage I got until you wrote that though. But now that I think about it, I've seen the same thing in my '03 automatic.

Gas costing what it does now, I'll be filling up more often to get the most out of a tank! I'll be keeping a closer watch on the results for a while to see if it pans out.

I don't have a clue, BumperBob, but from reading your response I assume that you are seeing the same trend. I thought I was nuts there for a while......[:I]

[:I]My mpg has never been over 16 to 17. I Changed plugs and wires and air filter a years or so ago and once since got 18. I've got a '02 Touring edition with 49500. I agree with a previous post that you should't have to do all theese little "Tweeks" ........but then again my repair shop owner recently called the PT a "brick in the wind"
I have an OBD light on that has been diagnoised with code P0601...New PCM is recommended. I 'm hope[:I]ing that the latest and greatest software may get me closer to 20!!!
