Default Air box temps

I've been reading the discussions about whether an air intake like K&N or whatever is helpful or not and decided to do a little experiment. I took an old wall thermometer, opened up the air box on my '01 N/A and put the thermo-
meter inside and went out driving until the car was at full operating tempera-
ture and then drove for about 15 minutes, several miles. I had to drive at 30 mph for the last couple of miles and don't know what effect that might have had but the air temperature today is 54 degrees and when I got home and took the thermometer out of the air box it read 66. So I duct taped it to the (engine) side of the air box and went out for another drive of a few miles. When I got home I opened the hood and peeled the thermometer off the side of the air box--it was pegged at 120 degrees so I don't know just what the reading might have been if the thermometer went higher. Just thought it was interesting to have some actual numbers.

I did an accurate temp study with a dual channel scope about 7 years ago. The results are charted at www.ptdiy.net
The temp study was very detailed with different air intakes.

Hey,thanks, MX-5. I didn't know about that site at all. It looks like a guy could save more than the subscription price with the info provided there.
