What about the engine temp. sensor (not the compass one)?

Since it seems to be intermittent, what about a flaky connection to it?

That would affect the fan, but not the coolant flow, correct?

My 2001 cruiser is starting to over heat. Gets hot then cools down when I turn A/C off. A/C cools but intermittently gets warmer then the heat goes up ands then will go down particularly when I speed up.

Is there a fan relay? what about the TSB or thermonstat?

Thanks,

Welcome, 53sixpack-

Does your temp gauge go above 1/2 way? Does fan come on at all? I usually think thermostat and water pump, forgetting fan...

If the fan is not coming on, check the engine coolant temp sensor first. This is a common problem with many cars.

I haven't had my PT long enough to have any problems. I have an Isuzu pickup (14 years), and every three years, I have to take the radiator out and blow the bugs out of it from the back side. I had all the symtoms described here, and changed many parts for nothing.

I had an overheating problem last year. During a parade it happened everyone one wanted to stop and help, i hushed them on so they can enjoy. Well it was low on fluids? It was weird because i just got the car back from the dealership for routine maintenence. Then on the way to the resturant for the dinner my car caught on fire near the fuel lines. I had both my daughters in the car. Everyone near by jumped to get them out and some one stuck a extinguisher to it and put it out. Toke it back to the dealer and they couldnt figure it out. Just flushed the radiator thats it. Well in the last three days its been overheating again. I have flushed the rad to see maybe its clogged. Still over heating. Changed the t-stat. Still overheating. Replaced both fan relays and fuse. Still overheating. Im worried now because i have to carry a 10lb extinguisher in the car just in case and the dealer cant figure it out. I rulled out the headgasget not losing fluid and oil is fine. Ruled out the waterpump becase there is plenty of circulation. Oh did i mention i replaced the belt what a experience that was. Im not getting no engine light or codes. The only thing I do seem to know is that the fan kicks on just before it hits red. Well In short HELP!!!!!!!!!!

Could still be headgasket - exhaust could have a leak to coolant - that'll overheat you. Also, don't see in list of what you replaced the sensor that turns the fan on - you say fan comes on just before it hits red - think it should come on much sooner.[:I]

Yes my fan should come on sooner, but i figured if it is coming on the sensor works, I think i just might take the car to the dealer to flash the pcm, But in the mean time were is this sensor loacated.
