Default Hawk Ceramic Brake Pads?

Hello everyone,

I am looking to replace my brakes this weekend. I wanted to get some nice brakes so I can get some better stopping power and way less dust! This is why I was turned on to Hawk Ceramics. However, a good friend of mine, who is a mechanic said it isnt a wise decision to put them on unless you have performance rotors because the pads are so rough they will destroy the stock rotors... I dont believe this completely. I believe that the way they work as they do is because of the superior compound, not because they are like rocks.

So my question to all of you who have tried ceramic brakes is do they cause damage if you have standard rotors? Anyone have problems?

Thanks,
George

I have used ceramics (Raybestos) with no ill effects.
Suggest you go to the Tire Rack website - they list all kinds of brakes with dust, noise, fade, etc.
Hawk makes more than 1 type of ceramic pad, I believe - some are more for track use, not road use.

George, there was a very recent posting this very question, use your search and look them up. I personally have NAPA ceramics on my last 3 PT's and never had a problem with the stock rotors.

The Hawk HPS are just as good dust just about as little and stop I think better than the Ceramix Hawks, they are also easier to find.

If not I like the Napa Ceramix(%100) ones. I use these on my N/A and the Hawk HPS on my GT..

Just upgrade to a better quality rotor and you will be fine, the OEM ones that come on the PT are just garbage even the NAPA repalcements are much better. I was actually able to turn them at the same milage I had to toss out the OEM ones..
