check engine on, automatic only third gear

hello,

I have a neighbor with a 2001 Pt cruiser that has a mouse problem He told me that he found a mouse in the air filter compartment. He also showed me some wires and hoses with mouse signs.
Now the car has the check engine light on, and the automatic transmission only shift to the third gear. Is this some kind of limp home mode ?
I will go later today with my ELM 327 to see if it can read the error. I also read on the forum that I can see the error code on the display.

Any ideas ?

the error code is
P0700 Transmission Control System Malfunction
i reseted it with the OBD interface, and the after 200 meters of driving the chech engine light came on again. Any ideas, please

so, after I reset the first error, and took the car for a ride, after it tried to change from the first to second gear the check engine light came on again, but now the error code is:

P0605 Control Module Programming Read Only Memory (ROM)

I checked all the wires for damage and they seem OK, I'm lost...

You are going to need a new Transmission Control module. You have an internal failure in the TCM. The transmission defaults to 3rd gear to allow you to drive the vehicle to get it worked on.

Thanks for your reply. Normally that's what I also figured, TCM error, TCM replace. But my neighbor is saying that the error appeared at the same time, as when he discovered the mouse in the engine compartment.
I guess today I will check all the wires (again), and if I don't find anything damaged, I will look for a module on eBay.
