I have a 02 limitied I just bought site unseen...sounds like a snapped timing belt..I dont want to do head work since it has a pretty good amount of miles on it..
Does anyone know up any writeups on pulling the engine? I have downloaded the repair book and it doesnt show or tell me anything.. The owner said it overheated and they took into the shop replaced thermostat and it seemed fine...Then the other day it all of sudden quit on them and now it will not run...The mechanic at the shop where it sits told them it probably broke the belt....I dunno I have not even seen it but I'm thinking used engine right off the bat.. I also did a search before asking and I wasnt able to find anything on proper way to do this... Does it come out the bottom, motor and trans or what?...Thanks for the help. |

The engine and transaxle come out together from above. Way too many instructions to put on this reply.
Both Haynes (25035) and Chilton (20390) have a soft cover book with instructions. Just because the timing belt broke doesn't mean you have to replace the engine. It's a non-interference engine which mean the valves won't hit the pistons but the valves can hit each other but most owners who come here to this forum have not had any internal damage when their timing belt broke.
