A couple of months ago, my cruiser was overheating. On the service, the garage found no obvious reasons and added a dye to the coolant mixture, in order to detect any possible leaks.
Over the next week, the car was running fine, though I had noticed a little water under the car, but this was clear, then the engine light came on and over the next few days (not driving), I noticed a green liquid at the front of the car. I called the garage and after looking at this, the radiator need replacing and I was told that all was good. When I picked up the car tonight, the engine light was still on. Thanks to the forums, I done a system check and got a P1684 & P0601 error code and Cruisin had a thread were he mentioned that by disconnecting the negative side of the battery that this may reset the light. I am going to give this a try, but if anyone has any other ideas, or has experienced the same codes, your help would be appreciated! |

From PT Do-It-Yourself.net.....
P1684 Battery Disconnected in the last 50 Starts P0601 - PCM internal controller failure. P1684 does not require any attention, but you'll need a scan tool and diagnostic manuals to troubleshoot the remaining issue. The P0601 code usually indicates a PCM failure and is not a DIY repair; it must be replaced by the dealer. Again, disconnect the negative battery cable to clear the codes and then see if that P0601 code comes back again.

Thanks for the quick reply, I have been in contact with the garage this morning and they have a scan tool and said that they will take a look at it for me.
I'll let you know how it goes! Taltos |

Well, I have since removed the negative lead from the battery, which didn't reset the light. Yesterday the garage had a look with the scanner and managed to rest the light, but when the car was turned on again (after the scanner was detached), the light reappeared.
I have read that if the PCM needs replacing, this can be done for free as the car is less than 8 yrs (and less than 80,000 miles) - under the emissions warranty? Is this a worldwide warranty, or only a US thing? Thanks for your help so far Crewsin, I am finding it hard to get info from the UK! Taltos

Taltos,
...and I'm sorry, I won't be able to tell you about your warranty. I was over in the UK (Harrogate, Yorkshire) for 12 years and my best friend was an owner/mechanic of his own shop. Helped me get through many MOT inspections but never had to deal with warranties only UK import laws and as I said MOT's. You'll have to find out that kind of info closer to home.
