Question!

So, I swapped out my stock airbox today for a short ram intake and found that some sort of fluid (I believe it to be oil) was leaking from a hose leading from my valve cover, and I found this lovely generic picture on Google Images and decided to point to what's leaking and see if someone could explain three things to me:


1) What the hell it is

2) Why it would be leaking fluid (oil?)

3) How to fix it





I'm basically asking because I don't want to mess with something I have no idea about. Skimmed through my Haynes manual and couldnt find a label for the hose, so.. here I am!

That's your PCV valve and connecting hose. = The Positive Crankcase Ventilation valve, or PCV valve, is a one-way valve that ensures continual evacuation of gases from inside a gasoline internal combustion engine's crankcase.

It also collects oil so that's what your seeing. As long as the tube isn't clogged it's OK and if you want to check the valve itself, unscrew it and shake it, You should hear a ball inside shaking around which acts as the one-way valve.

Did you do the Burp Mod or did the PT come with it? Just one of the better mods that MX-5 came up with. What part of Florida are you from?

I did the burp mod myself. I'm looking around for more things to do, but unfortunately I can't do much as I don't have an unlimited source of funds. If I did, I'd rebuild the bottom end and slap a turbo on her!

I go to school down in USF and did most of my recent stuff in the parking garage across from my dorm! Had a lot of people stop and talk to me about stuff. It was very interesting.

Right now, I'm living with my parents for the summer, up in Citrus County, but I'm moving into an apartment in Tampa at the end of July.

I see you're from 'West Central Florida' as well! Whereabouts?
