I've heard of some burp mod? Something about cutting a wire and the trans shifting better? Whats up with that? I've done some looking around and all links I find to it are no good.

Is it for ANY pre-2003 pt or what?

Ah-ha!! I found it! Wow... I cant believe second gear actually chirped in my 4spd! And it def. torque steered as advertised.

Nice job mx-5!! What else do ya have for me!!

Your signature says "auto" but you said it chirped in 2nd gear in your 4 speed.

I know for a fact the "Birp Mod" is for auto shifters only (because I did the mod myself) so are you referring to your auto as a "4 speed auto" ?

Yes. I refered to my auto as 4spd. And I could not BELIEVE that just snipping a wire could do that lol.
Now I need to look into some supposed reflash for my ecu that was recommended by another member

It's a very nice mod, and probably one of the easiest.
Flashing anything on a PT is risky, so just be careful.

I'm pleased with the mod so far! We'll see what happens when I get more drive time with it.

But the guy was telling me the dealership would reflash the ecu.. not me lol

hi there sorry to sound dim"" but can some one please tell me what the "Birp Mod" is and what does it do and where to find it

i have a 2003 auto clasic...with trick shift...thank you ..zebra,,

I found it here... MX-5 'Burp -Free' Mod. Procedure

Doesn't look like it will work on a 2003 or newer PT however.

Your right Travis. Only works for the 2001 and early 2002 models.

I'm pretty sure that the 2003's and above can actually have the ecu reprogrammed for quicker/firmer shifting.. but I could be wrong.

The burp mod basically increases the 1-2 shift (and maybe others.. haven't gone that far yet lol) big time and gets rid of the horrific shift lag. My auto na pt will actually chirp second gear and torque steer pretty good too lol
