What are the OEM plugs in a 2003 2.4L engine?
Is there any real reason to use platinum plugs? Thanks, Larry |

Platinum and iridium are some of the best electrical conductors in the world. well besides silver and gold. But since in the combustion chamber of an engine there is intense pressure and heat neither of the two can be used. Platinum and Iridium are both hard and conduct little heat. The more heat they conduct the more often they need changed. The more electricity you can release in the certain amount of time the spark plug fires (1 to 5 milliseconds) the better the combustion. if you look at two different spark plugs one Platinum tipped and one nickel-iron, you will notice that the nickel-iron has a much larger central electrode than the Platinum that is because even though there is much less platinum it still can produce much more spark than the nickel-iron. So... this all sums up to Better gas mileage,( which at only like $3-10 they pay for themselves) more horses and better acceleration. So yes Larry there is a reason to use Platinum tipped spark plugs.

Good to know Alex, because I'm going to be changing my plugs soon.
Favourite brand? |

The champion platinums were designed for the PT - don't use in a turbo. I had them in my '02.
By all means, replace the wires and get another brand - the stock wires are crap! On both my PTs I started getting misses around 20,000 miles - replaced plugs & wires & have gone tens of thousands miles without a burp.

We can make it simply using a bungee or else the dielectric grease with stop moisture from getting inside the openings of the plug wires, help make a better contact of the wires themselves and stop the wire ends from sticking so it will be easier to take them off at the next change.
