Yesterday, I was driving back on the interstate when I noticed that my PT Cruiser wasn't accelerating normally. It would get up to about 40-45mph alright but then would just barely work it's way up higher. I would have the pedal almost to the floor but there was very little happening. Usually, if I need to accelerate I can without any problems. I took it my local car repair guy today and he ran several tests and could find nothing wrong. He thinks that I might have gotten some bad gas, which could be the problem because earlier yesterday I had stopped to get about a quarter of a tank. I've put in some gas treatment in hopes of fixing the problem.
If it is a problem with the gas, how long until the gas treatment starts fixing it? And if it turns out to not be the gas, do you have any ideas what could be the problem? Thanks. Oh, and my Cruiser has 92k miles on it. |

Our 2002 PT started doing that and then just quit moving, towed to Dealer, it had to have the transmission rebuilt. I paid $100 deductible as it only had 47K on it. Soon after I traded it off for a 2006 Limited. Hope you have better luck!!!

Miles count more than years, and if they were stock wires, that's too long.
My stock wires started to act up before 20,000 miles, causing hesitation and missing...

The wires I have on now don't have more than 15k miles on them at the most. |

I bought mine at 45k and while it wasn't running bad I went ahead and changed the plugs/wires because I didn't know the prior maintenance history.
For $50 and about 30 minutes of my time it was worth it and I saw an immediate improvement in acceleration. It still had the originals in it.
