AiRaid comes with a metal housing that fits on the existing air box and seals against the hood. Not cheap, but what isn't and it will last, no replacing the filter either, cleaning kit less that $20.

The drop in K&N is touted to increase power and mileage appreciably. K&N says the drop in "may" increase your mileage 10-15%. Many friends who have both 4 and 6 cylinder engines say that was the smallest amount of mileage increases they experienced. So I'm not so sure the drop in is totally "worthless"?
Look back a page or two at the picture I displayed. As far as gas mileage is concerned, the SRI is the best way to go as far as mileage goes. Just buy the biggest k&n conical filter you can afford (or want to afford) and remove the upper intake box, and just attach the filter to the end of the rigid stock intake tube.

As far as I'm concerned, you might as well just do the airbox mods and use the drop-in filter if you're considering the Airaid. That doesn't change the intake tube, which is part of the power maker/mileage increaser.

Cool Re: Gas Mileage

hmmm, I get 30 City and 36 Highway since i upgraded the computer and changed the gear shift ratios as well as the acceleration rate in my 2001 PT Cruiser. so now instead of getting 250 miles on a full tank, highway i get 470 and city about 395. so im loving my cruiser right now. I still think ill change the 4 spd auto to a 5 spd auto or manual. that might get more but all i know is im getting better than average mileage.

Also, what the HELL did you do to get that kind of mileage?

You are talking about a PT Cruiser, right? 30 in the city with an automatic? Man, pass that bong over here. Sorry, but I gotta call total BS. I've heard some good stories on these forums and this is one of the best. I got a good laugh.

1. as for where in buffalo i live in the elmwood strip area, not giving exact location.

2. i got the gas reciepts to prove my MPG.

3. all i did was take it to my mechanic (a friend who also has a PT Cruiser 2003. basically, took the upgrade from the 03 computer and upgraded the 01 computer. changed the gear shift ratio so that it accelerates faster but loses top speed. so the top speed of my 01 is now only 103MPH but i get up to the speed i need to be at in less time and less RPM's which gives me more MPG.

4. thats all i know, if anyone wants details on how to do it, ask my mechanic cuz i dont know all a lot about cars except for changing headlights, oil and tires.

There is really no huge difference in the '01 and '03 pcm. There is nothing special with the '03 pcm. I had an automatic '01 and have an automatic '04 and both got/get 18-20 mpg in town with a light foot. You are claiming a 10 mpg increase! Only within the past year has Dodge/Chrysler allowed certain companies (Diablosport and SCT) to have access for the PT turbo and Neon SRT-4 pcms to increase power and to an extent, mpg, but nothing like you are claiming. I can get a mpg program for my SRT-4 for $80 and it will increase my mpg around 2-3 mpg. Big whoop, I can do that with my foot. Sorry, I just can't go along with what you are claiming.
