Cool Re: Gas Mileage

well, im not here to brag, but i know what my PT gets, it may not have been the computer that jumped the MPG, it could be the shift ratio or accelleration rate. number of things, those are what i know my mechanic did, as for anything else i dont know. but all i know is i get on average about 420-450 miles on one tank of gas driving city and highway.

Well you should certainly call him and ask EXACTLY what he did, as this would be a break-through in the PT community.

Extremely hard to believe, that's for sure. He could very well be the only guy on the planet with that kind of mileage in a PT.

Yea sorry I find it VERY hard to buy any of this since my 5 speed does not get that kind of mileage. I cannot see how changing the shift points on a auto can be better.

^Like I previously stated, ask your mechanic exactly what he did, then report it back here. Many people wish to know.

Some mileage data: Totaled up my log book on my 2001 5 speed (yes, by hand) for 113,283 miles, 3,977.2 gallons. 28.48 mpg total!

I think that is excellent everything considered. That is almost all highway trips (I don't ever do short trips of less than 10 miles) generally doing 70 with the cruise control. I accelerate slowly and shift early. I've done a couple of very minor aerodynamic changes, the largest being dropping the rear end making the roofline more parallel to the ground. I also use Mobil One. Car's original EPA rating is 19/26 mpg.

my wife drove to NY about 800 miles away and got a consistant 26-29mpg the whole trip, going 75-ish, with 2 dogs, a baby, and her car loaded with everything they will need for a few months.

06 manual 5 speed with 40000 miles:

The computer says I'm getting between 29 and 30.4, but I'm really getting between 28 and 29.7mpg. Thats mostly highway at 65-75mph.

I have the stock tire size with the plastic hubcaps. How much will the mileage go down If I go with the 16 wheels?

You guys should join Fuelly.com and than link it your signature and we can get a real good representation of what everyone is averaging. I drive mostly all city at least 80% light to light so I was happy that I was even able to get 20.2 out of my PT when I first got it I doubt I was getting 16 city. New wires, new plugs, K&N drop in, inflated tires, synthetic oil, Royal Purple transmission flush. Now I'm at 20 but looking to eek out some more, I think I might do the mod to my stock intake, I just hate to trash it I might pick up a used one and modify that one instead.
