I think I've seen threads floating around here talking about how those things are a waste of money...

But hey, it's not my money so go for it

Chris,

That should take just a little more than a weekend to throw on. Hope you got a nice cool place to work...and LKQ (Salvage Yard) is right down the street (CR486) when you need another block. Where you racing, Gainsville?

Carey, yeah, it's more than likely just a pipe dream at this point. And I've been going down to Bradenton, not Gainesville.

Block may survive for a little while if you make all the necessary modifications, lower the compression, etc.as well as added cooling.. Transmission will probally go first.

I have two small turbos on a 2110 VW Karmann Ghia street car ,homemade system air-water,intercooled with fuel injection using mostly Datsun parts -a little over 200 rear wheel hp in street trim..Engine life expectancy is directly related to turbo waste gate /boost settings....I use Porsche transmissions, can get 300 rw hp if I push it..lives pretty good @ 200 and makes a HEL**uva sleeper....Really a lot of trouble and not much fun after a month or so or until some new ricers show up around town...

Oh yeah, I'm fully aware of the PT's limitations-- like I said, it's simply a pipe dream to expect more than 200hp on a daily basis from this car without some serious bottom end/tranny work.

Honestly I only see 2 problems with the kit. No exhaust manifold to mount the turbo on which might not be that much of a problem... somebody out there probably makes one or can modify one. The other issue is the electronics. You will have to figure out how to fool the pcm into not seeing the boost. Fueling is going to be an issue also because you cant increase the pressure.
But as for the kit it looks pretty complete! The know how to install is another issue. And as others have said you will have to do some work on the bottom end... lower compression, forged rods and pistons etc.....
Best thing you could do would be to sell your 01 and get a newer gt. From what I understand the 03's are the easiest to modify from the factory. Install a Stage 1 pcm and injectors and you'll have more power than you can hook up!
I have an 06 gt with a manual trans and Stage 1. can't really put the power down till I hit 3rd. Spins all the way through 1st and most of second gear!

hey chris, on ebay they also have this kit
Chrysler PT Cruiser 420a T3T4 Turbo Charger Kit:eBay Motors (item 260444495968 end time Aug-09-09 14:00:26 PDT)
use the link it's like that first kit you posted just has everything, including the manifold. it says for the 420a but the only difference between the 2.4 and the 420a is that the 2.4 is a stroked version of the 420a. the head is the same dimensions so it'll bolt right on
