Just discovered that my lower intake manifold has a crack.
The crack was caused by the previous owner tightening the upsidedown bolt that holds the upper end of the oil stick to the lower intake manifold. The dip stick bracket rotated into the bottom edge of the manifold and caused a 2" split in the plastic.Is this an odd failure? Thanks. |

Chrysler must have determined that the design of the 2001 lower intake manifold was flawed...because it was redesigned in later years so that the bolt that holds the top of the dipstick bolts horizontally towards the engine. The original 2001 design has the bolt coming straight up from below.
Also....Beware the bolt pattern that's used to attach the upper and lower manifolds also changed. The two most outward fastener locations were changed....so you can't mix-and-match uppper and lower manifolds from the different newer and older intake manifolds. |

Your right. I didn't know that you had replaced it. If I remember correctly the old design had curved areas at the end of the mating surface and the new one is straight. Or the other way around.
![]() Also like I said check the pcv hose. They get brittle and cause vacuum leaks.
