Default AFE Cold Air Intake

Hey guys,

For starters, just saying hey as this is my first post.

Secondly, I just installed an AFE Stage 2 Cold Air Intake on my 2003 GT. This was the first time I have ever done any work on a car. I think it went ok. Took me about an hour or so and the intake sounds great when accelerating, but when I decelerate quickly there is this sputtering or fluffing noise. I have only driven around for probably 15 minutes, so I don't know if it is still just getting broken in, I messed something up, or it's supposed to be like that.

Thoughts?

Thanks!

The computer should adjust to the change after driving for a little while.

Welcome.
When I put a K&N intake on my turbo, I thought I left a hose off because of the noise...
I describe it likle Darth Vader breathing...
If that's it, it's normal. The stock airbox mutes all that sound.

When I am accelerating fairly hard and then let off the gas I think I get that "Darth Vader breathing" sound you are talking about. Which is fine with me, but after that there sometimes is a fluttering sound. Is this also normal??

Yes. It fades off, right? Give it gas, take foot off, you get a "WHOOSH" then
Whoosh, whoosh

Hahaha, yes that would be perfect way to describe it. Nice use of bold and caps.

Its called turbo flutter... It is the reversal of pressure from boost to vac over the compressor wheel. Its just louder now, it happened before you just couldn't hear it

Its normal

Do you have any pics of the intake either before or after install? Just curious if this intake just bolts to the stock ttab pipe or replacess it with a little less restrictive one.

Before - Before picture by sCrod3s - Photobucket

After - After picture by sCrod3s - Photobucket

The kit replaced the air filter, box, a couple hoses, and the intake tube all the way to the turbo inlet.

So, I have the Mopar blow off plate that just arrived at my door. I'm assuming this will have an affect on the turbo flutter???
