Question surg type idle, and surge while driving

I have a rough idle. As i am driving i get this light surge. More like a quick miss feeling. Seems like hessitation. Not sure what it could be. No check engine light is on.

katlady,

Please fill out more information about your cruiser. What year and mileage do you have? Did you buy it new or previously owned. What maintenance has been done (tune-up)?

katlady, Welcome to the Forum.

You didn't give us much info to go on such as mileage, NA or Turbo, year etc.

My first thought would be plugs and wires, I changed mine before I had 500 miles on it as the stock wires are crap. There is "sticky" on how to change them. Good Luck and let us know how it went and if it helped.

Agree. My wires started to go bad before 20,000 miles.

it is a 2002 touring model. i just bought it. it has 103,000 miles on it. It has mopar wires on it so it may be the origianl wires. The carfax report didnt tell me much about the car. It had short history. the engine is a 2.4b So i have no idea what has been done to the car if anything. The car originally came out of california. Its non turbo. When it idles or while driving its like it skips a beat here and there. when on the highway i dont feel it as bad. other then that it drives good. my first tank of gas i got 19.68 miles per gallon. Not sure if that is normal or not.

Katlady,

Hope your sitting down. Just guessing but my thoughts are that whoever had your cruiser traded it in right before a load of money would have to be spend on upkeep.

Your right at the point where the timing belt, water pump and a couple other things need to be changed. The price runs somewhere around $800 to $1200 depending on where you take it. On top of that, the plugs and wires should be changed and if you can't do it yourself, another $150 - $250 for that. Then there's the transaxle. It should be flushed and in the neighborhood of $150.

A complete going over of the front suspension, wheel bearings and CV joints should be done along with a good look at the brakes and rotors. Can't guess at the price because you don't know what they'll find.

Sorry, but if you pick up any car with that kind of mileage, it should be looked over thoroughly and brought up to specs.

well its a manual transmission. we looked over alot of the car and seem to be good.. it was a repo not a trade in. But yes you could be right about it needing some work. My husband already said he is wanting to get the timing belt somtime soon just cause of the miles that are on it. We plan to do the plugs and wires first and see what that does. Hope that will fix it. Anyhow thanks for the info. i will post and let you know if the plugs and wires does any good.
thanks
